About The Poem

When I was at medical school, one of the students in our year was called Candida. This was a source of much merriment when we were introduced to Candida albicans, the yeast that causes thrush. If you have spent any time in the company of medical students, you'd vow never to consult a doctor about any remotely embarassing condition.

Doctor, to be candid
I feel as though
I'm on fire, down below

Madam, I can espy
A little thrush
Has nested in your bush

Or, to be candider
It's candida
