Animal Poems
Animals lend themselves well to being the subject of funny poems and it sometimes seems that nearly all funny poetry written to children is about either animals or school. Funny animal poems for adults tend to focus less on the cute and cuddly aspects of animals as pets and rather more on some of the less savoury aspects of animal behaviour. In essence though, all animal poems can be divided between those poems which treat animals as animals and anthropomorphic animal poems which imbue animals with human characteristics and failings.
Funny Animal Poems
The majority of the animal poems at Peculiar Poetry are to be found in Patrick Winstanley's collection of funny poems about animals. The collection is wide ranging and varied, but has a definite tendency towards the anthropomorphic.
Animals featured include:
- A Camel and a Dromedary, which feature in a sweet little poem about marriage
- A Spider in a parody of the nursery rhyme Little Miss Muffett
- Dinosaurs, in a slighlty risqué poem entitled 'How to Sex a Dinosaur'
- A Snail who suffers from a mixture of gluttony and sloth
- Hippos and Rhinos in a compare and contrast poem
- A Polar Bear afflicted by both mental heath and sexual problems
- Snakes various in a poem about mathematics
- A Zebra which enjoys a trip to the supermarket rather more than its owner
Animal Poems that Escaped
It is worth emphasising that Peculiar Poetry does not produce funny poems 'to order' and so requests for poems about cute little kittens or cuddly bunny rabbits are likely to go unheeded. If you are looking for a poem about a specific type or species or animal its well worth using the search facility at the bottom of the page, as its always possible there's one lurking in a different poetry category. Paul Curtis' funny poetry collection, for example, does not include a animal poems section but does include a few animal related poems. 'Panda' is a poem about the Giant Panda and the possible extinction that the species faces in the wild, whereas 'Giant' is a funny love poems about pandas and the romantic problems they face living in zoos under a constant public gaze.
